Exotic Birds Mosaic

A commission for a mosaic for a bathroom in Edinburgh.

This image is a tiled mosaic panel for a long wall in a bathroom. The client had travelled extensively in the Middle East and was inpired by the mosaics she saw there. So whilst incorporating more traditional mosaic techniques with the background, I used primarily recycled materials for the birds and flowers.

Library Bathroom

The bathroom in what was our self-catering flat. This was my first major work - it took me as long to do this mosaic as it did for David to refurbish the flat! At the time, I worked as a relief librarian, and I do have a love of books, so thought that this would be a good subject matter for the bathroom.

This mosaic is made mostly of ceramic bathroom tiles, all hand cut to form the shape of vintage books. Other ceramics such as broken crockery have formed the vases and flowers which have a 3D quality.
