Schools, Community and Other Projects

Working with Schools and Community Groups is such a joy for me. I love seeing the outcomes and the pride on the faces of the participants at what they have achieved.

I also enjoy being part of larger mosaic projects, and travelling with mosaic, so have included some of them here.

a flower garden and tree made in mosaic on a red brick wall

school project

Terra Nova School

Teaching and advising the art teacher so that all the children made a piece for the mosaic, be it a flower head, an owl, or butterfly, I was then tasked with 4 days to install all the pieces, and teach the art of grouting to all the volunteers.

Comrie Primary Shop Fronts

As part of a bigger school project, these mosaics of Comrie's shop fronts were made in workshops with all the class groups, and then were completed in my studio.

They are Hansen's Kitchen, The Comrie Library, The Handy Shop, The White Church, Campbell's Bakery, The Royal Hotel.

There is also one for the Comrie Butcher (not shown).

Muthill Primary Birds

Commissioned by the Muthill Village Trust, and made with the Muthill Primary School, this is one of a set of six mosaics which are now located on the Muthill cycle path.

I first gave a talk about mosaics to the three classes at Muthill Primary School, then we set about making the birds: black grouse, ptarmigan, waxwing, osprey, sparrowhawk and buzzard.

The mosaics were then completed in my workshop.

  • two mosaics, the top one shows silhouettes of dancers against an orange and red background. The bottom one is a seascape with an octupus and fish

    Marotta, Italy

In 2022 and 2024 I participated in an international symposium to make a stretch of mosaic for the sea wall.

The top one was inspired by my love of dancing, and the bottom one was about the destruction of the ocean, hence the sea is pink and the sand is blue!

  • a wagon wheel against a brick background surrounded by birds executed in mosaic

    Vogeltreppe, Germany

Working under the artist Isadora Paz Lopez, I participated in a week-long mosaic-making fest to contribute a small bit to a large stairwell.

In advance, I made a pair of blue tits, which ended up on the wagon wheel.
